Resolution Number: 1997-D124
Title: Give Thanks for Life of Bishops Sanders and Wright
Legislative Action Taken: Adopted
Final Text:

Resolved, That the deputation of the Diocese of East Carolina memorialize the 72nd General Convention to offer God thanks for the life and ministry of the two bishops of that diocese who have died in the past year.

The Rt. Rev. Brice Sidney Sanders died on June 5, 1997, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. His vision of servant ministry inspired the diocese to a high level of voluntary giving. This level of support allowed the establishment of two Hispanic congregations and the building of Trinity Center. This magnificent camp and conference facility has become a regional center for prayer, evangelism, education, and fellowship for both the church and society. Bishop Sanders' joy was wonderfully infecting to all he met.

The Rt. Rev. Thomas Henry Wright, retired Bishop of East Carolina, died April 26, 1997. Bishop Wright's vision encompassed East Carolina and beyond. His leadership in Mutual Responsibility and Interdependence led East Carolina into the broader life of the Anglican Communion.
