Title: Commend The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry
Legislative Action Taken: Adopted
Final Text:

Resolved, That the House of Deputies of the 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church commends the Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry for his leadership as Presiding Bishop during this most challenging time in our history both in the world and in the church; and be it further

Resolved, That we delight in his preaching style that both inspires and teaches us and perhaps at times confounds the translators and sign language interpreters as they try to follow him as he moves throughout the space provided; and be it further

Resolved, That we marvel at his ability through his preaching to mesmerize the entire world with his sermon at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018, in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, England, preaching the redemptive potential of love that electrified the wedding; and be it further

Resolved, That the five books written by the Presiding Bishop have inspired people throughout the church and beyond; teaching the power of love and how to hold on to hope and faith during these most troubling times; and be it further

Resolved, That we value his teaching us through Revival Tours that we are inheritors of the Jesus Movement and have the opportunity as Episcopalians to be equipped as evangelists and to welcome people who aren’t a part of the church to join us in the Jesus Movement; and be it further

Resolved, That we are all blessed by being a part of Bishop Curry’s animating vision and the message of his ministry to seek racial reconciliation; to address in whatever ways our gifts allow to work for climate change; to be a part of the evangelism to which we are called; to question the policies of immigration and to work for justice; and to be a welcoming community that blesses marriage equality; and be it further

Resolved, That we celebrate his teaching us through his own ministry and preaching that we as Episcopalians are members of the Jesus Movement and that “If it is not about love, it is not about Jesus.”
