Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Cincinnati, OH, January 27 to 30, 1997, instruct the Treasurer to vote in favor of all resolutions filed by the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society during the current shareholder season; and be it further

Resolved, In accordance with the Executive Council resolution of May 1995, that the Council instruct the Treasurer to vote its proxies in accordance with prior actions of the Council already approved in the Triennium. The general subject areas of resolutions previously considered by Executive Council include:

  1. resolutions asking companies to set up an independent nominating committee to nominate candidates for membership on the Board of Directors;
  2. resolutions asking for a review of executive compensation, including links to social performance;
  3. resolutions asking companies to issue a CERES Report or to endorse the CERES Principles;
  4. resolutions requesting that companies report on Superfund sites;
  5. resolutions which request reports on carbon dioxide emissions and climate change;
  6. resolutions which support policies to phase-out the use of chlorine in paper production processes;
  7. resolutions which support phasing out the use of chlorine-bleached papers;
  8. resolutions which support policies to make Boards of Directors more inclusive of women and persons of color;
  9. resolutions asking companies to issue reports on their Equal Employment Opportunity policies, including releasing EEO-1 reports, conducting Glass Ceiling Reviews, or issuing a Glass Ceiling Report;
  10. resolutions asking companies to adopt vendor standards, codes of conduct for international operations, or human rights guidelines for overseas operations;
  11. resolutions which support adoption of the MacBride Principles to ensure fair employment in Northern Ireland;
  12. resolutions which support a review of or report on Mexican maquiladora operations;
  13. resolutions which support reporting on the use of Chinese forced labor;
  14. resolutions asking companies to terminate their operations in Burma or to report on the costs of Burma boycotts;
  15. resolutions which support the adoption of a fair lending policy;
  16. resolutions asking insurance companies to report on lending to low-income communities;
  17. resolutions which ask companies to develop moral and ethical criteria for the acceptance and implementation of military contracts;
  18. resolutions which support reports on foreign military sales, possibilities of military conversion, or "Star Wars" activities;
  19. resolutions asking companies to adopt various policies on tobacco sales and marketing.
