Whereas, The Reverend Samuel Van Culin, Jr., Doctor of Divinity, has been called to the illustrious position of Secretary General of The Anglican Consultative Council; and

Whereas, Sam Van Culin's whole life has prepared him for this important post, from his rearing in the international crossroads of Hawaii through 20 years in the World Mission unit at the Episcopal Church Center from which he has traveled the world over; and

Whereas, Sam, known unofficially as the Presiding Bishop's "Secretary of State," has for the last six years served this Church as the Executive For World Mission with great distinction and grace; and

Whereas, The whole Anglican church family has recognized his vast knowledge of and vision for the Anglican Communion through this most appropriate "call"; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Presiding Bishop and Executive Council do give thanks for the life and service of Sam Van Culin, assure him of our prayers and bid him Godspeed in his new leadership role and work with the Anglican Consultative Council.

Whereas, Margaret H. Andersen has served since 1963 as a member of the Episcopal Church Center staff, bringing the Word of God to an untold number of persons through media and other forms of communication and bearing with good cheer a variety of demands and responsibilities; and

Whereas, Margaret H. Andersen has been friend and co-minister with lay persons, priests and bishops of many nations during these years; and

Whereas, The ministry of all Episcopalians has been made easier and more fruitful because of her willingness to share her talent in the visual arts, her imagination and good humor and her patient disposition; and

Whereas, The tasks of the Executive Council and the Episcopal Church Center staff have been more effective as a means of mission because of her keen insight and skilled leadership; therefore be it

Resolved, That it shall be recorded this day that the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church gives thanks for the life and ministry of Margaret H. Andersen, offers praise to God for her many achievements and good works in His name, and wishes her well as she continues to serve Him as minister, communicating His word and the warmth of His Spirit.

Whereas, Dr. Woodrow Wilson Carter, Sr., known to a few among us as Woody Carter, has faithfully served the Church for years he won't permit us to number; and

Whereas, During those innumerable years he has faithfully served our Lord and us as a leader with the National Council of Churches Task Force on Child and Family Justice, Full Employment and Welfare Reform; and

Whereas, He is currently Chairperson of the Ecumenical Minority Bail Bond Committee; and

Whereas, Between times, he organized and is the executive for the National Commission on Social and Specialized Ministries; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, meeting by its Executive Council in Charleston, South Carolina on February 9 through 11, 1983, does hereby commend and most heartily give thanks to Woody Carter for his faithful and untiring service to the single mission of the Church upon the occasion of his retirement from active service therein in March 31, 1983.
