Title: Recommendation to ACC Standing Committee Regarding Autonomous Provinces
ID: EXC021985.25
Committee: World Mission
Citation: Executive Council Minutes, Feb. 12-15, 1985, Phoenix, pp. 71-72.
Text:

Resolved, That the Executive Council recommend to the Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council that the minimum number of dioceses required to form an autonomous province be reduced from four dioceses to three in the case of ARENSA (Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela) because these areas have the leadership and maturity to be self-governing, and national and cultural integrity can best be served by moving toward a self-governing province, therefore, wise mission strategy would be to encourage their plans to establish a new Anglican province; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive for World Mission communicate this action to the Anglican Consultative Council with a letter of explanation describing fully the circumstances of these three dioceses and their plan toward self-governance.
