Resolves of the Executive Council

Resolved, That the Executive Council meeting in Tampa, Florida from February 9-12, 2004, receive with thanks the report of the Mexico Covenant Committee (MCC) on its meeting of 23-24 April, 2003 in Cuernavaca, as communicated in the 18 July, 2003 letter of Bishop James Folts to the Rev. Canon Patrick Mauney, accompanied by minutes submitted by Ms. Maritza Cordova; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council receive with appreciation the report that legal proceedings have been initiated concerning those responsible for financial malfeasance in the Diocese of Northern Mexico and the Diocese of Western Mexico and that much of the stolen property has been recovered; and be it further

Resolved, That in view of the challenges facing La Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico (IAM) and its relationship with the Episcopal Church, the Executive Council affirm the suggestion that the MCC meet more frequently than in the past and request the Office of Anglican and Global Relations to make such allocations within its budget as will facilitate more frequent meetings; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council share the MCC’s continuing concern for the establishment of a viable pension program for the clergy and lay employees of La Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico and urge that IAM’s discussions with the Church Pension Fund be brought to successful conclusion; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council note with concern the questions raised in the MCC’s report about the viability of the IAM as an autonomous province of the Anglican Communion, express its hope that autonomous status can be maintained, and suggest that the MCC undertake continuing consultation about this matter, drawing on such personnel from IAM and the Episcopal Church as may be appropriate; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council assure the MCC of its prayers for the healing of the community life and ministry of Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico.
