Resolved, That the Primates of the Anglican Communion, meeting from January 24 to 30, 2011, in Dublin, Ireland, discussed the nature and prevalence of gender based violence and shared stories of violence against women and girls from both the southern and northern hemispheres, including an account of unremitting sexual violence against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a legacy of conflict, and of domestic and many other forms of abuse in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world; and be it further Resolved, That The Episcopal Church abhors gender based violence against women and girls and has a longstanding commitment to the human rights of women and girls throughout the world; and be it further Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Fort Worth Texas, from February 16-18, 2011, expresses its thanksgiving for the Primates’ letter and renews its commitment to an ongoing witness against gender based violence against women and girls. |
