Text:

Resolved, That the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, meeting in Linthicum Heights, MD from February 5-7, 2014, recognizes the successful completion of Resolution EXC062005.32 calling for the application for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations (UN), by the decision of the United Nations Committee on NGOs on January 27, 2014 to recommend ECOSOC special consultative status to the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America;

Commend the local, diocesan and church-wide work and ministries of 2 million Episcopalians in 17 countries over a vast breadth of issues relating to the work of the UN and its member states, verbally recognized by the UN Committee of NGOs as “noble work” worthy of their support;

Encourage all Episcopalians to “think globally and act locally” and avail themselves of the resources and opportunities presented by this status, in particular partnering with the Global Partnerships Office and the Church’s official representatives to the UN;

Affirm that advocacy and networking at the United Nations forms an intrinsic part of The Episcopal Church’s comprehensive strategies for advocacy and public witness that both informs, and is informed by, those comprehensive strategies;

Express its gratitude to the Anglican Consultative Council for its consistent and gracious support of The Episcopal Church’s engagement at the United Nations, both as a member province of the Anglican Communion and in our seeking our own ECOSOC consultative status;

Affirm its commitment to working closely with the Anglican Communion in the development of its ministries at the United Nations, for the further enhancement and strengthening of our collective Anglican and Episcopal voices there.
