Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, through its Presiding Bishop convey to the President of the United States and the leadership of Congress:

its support for the continuation of a generous and humanitarian refugee policy; and

its opposition to any reduction in U.S. refugee admissions and in particular, the reduction of the refugee admission ceiling proposed for fiscal year 1988; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church voice its special humanitarian concern that Southeast Asian refugees be allowed to join families and communities in the U.S. in increased numbers to avoid unacceptable, prolonged suffering in hazardous conditions in the refugee camps in Southeast Asia; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its dismay and disapproval that the provisions of the Refugee Act of 1980 are being unevenly, unjustly and inhumanely applied by the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the administration of the Act as it applies to admissions and asylum procedures; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be instructed to send copies of this resolution to:

The U.S Secretary of State, The U.S. Attorney General, The U.S. Coordinator for Refugee Affairs, the Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and all PECUSA Dioceses; and be it further

Resolved, That members of the Episcopal Church be informed of the adoption of this resolution and encouraged to contact immediately the President, their Senators and Representatives to urge attention to this resolution.
