Jesus is "the Lord of change," the Rt. Rev. Dorsey Henderson, Bishop of Upper South Carolina, said in his sermon at the Feb. 3-4 convention at Christ Church, Greenville. Citing New Testament accounts, the bishop said, "Jesus changed things. He changed people, he changed lives."

He continued, "His mission and ours are the same. We are called to be a people of change - to change people, lives, and our world consistent with the purpose of the Incarnation and utilizing the baptismal covenant as the formula for change."

Delegates adopted a long-range plan that was two years in the making. Priorities are evangelism, youth and young adult ministry, and Christian formation.

In other action, the convention:

  • adopted a 2001 statement of mission of $2,688,637;
  • resolved to make plans for new congregations with special consideration given to inclusion of minorities;
  • called for continued race relations training for parish and diocesan leaders.

All convention events were conducted in the context of liturgy.
