[Perida Faye Miller, 16, o...]
Perida Faye Miller, 16, of Jackson, Miss., is attending an all-white high school in Garden City, N.Y., as a result of the personal concern of the Rt. Rev. and Mrs. Jonathan G. Sherman with whom she now resides. The Bishop of the Diocese of Long Island and his wife are sponsoring Miss Miller in her junior and senior years under the National Urban League's Student Transfer Educational Program (S. T. E. P.) in order that she may benefit from the facilities of an upper-middle class school district and improve her chances of attending a high caliber college. Miss Miller, an A student, is one of the first two southern Negroes admitted by the school board.
