The Rt. Rev. James L. Duncan (right), Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida, visited with Mr. Buffalo Tiger (left), chairman of the Miccosukee tribe, at the tribe's grounds in South Dade. Bishop Duncan conferred with Mr. Tiger regarding the latter's recent election to the Southeast Regional Board of the National Committee on Indian Work of the Episcopal Church. The purpose of the conference, the Bishop stated, was to ascertain ways in which the Southeast Diocese can assist Mr. Tiger carry out his responsibilities in his new position. "The Episcopal Church, " said Bishop Duncan, "has been involved in Indian affairs in Florida for many years." Speaking to a meeting of the newly-created Southeast Regional Board of the N. C. I. W., Mr. Tiger stated: "We accept some of the white man's ways, but we want to continue to live as Indians. We know it is hard, but we must try to accept both ways. Most people in Florida are sympathetic toward Indians. They want to help. Many Indians do not know how to go about getting the help which is available, but if we go about it in the right way, we can usually find it."
