Offering from Jordan to Alabama. The Rt. Rev. Furman C. Stough (left), Bishop of Alabama and chairman of the House
of Bishops' overseas committee was the consultant representing the U.S. Episcopal
Church at the formation of the new Central Synod of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem
and the Middle East. While in Amman, Jordan, a native Christian, Dr. Samir Koure,
approached Bishop Stough expressing loving concern for the Church in Alabama, and
presented him with a handful of Jordanian money asking the bishop to use it for a Sunday
school in his diocese. At the Alabama Diocesan Convention in Montgomery, Bishop
Stough called up the Rev. Graham Glover, who has charge of a mountain mission at
Mentone in the hills of Alabama, and presented to him for his Sunday school the gift
which in American money amounted to $175. The Mentone mission, which began in a
log cabin, serves hundreds of needy people in the area. (Photo by the "Alabama Churchman. ")
