The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Donald Coggan, left, shakes hands
with Pope Paul VI, as he arrives for a historic meeting with the pontiff in the papal
private study at the Vatican. The Pope said he was optimistic about efforts to reunite
the two Churches. At a dedication ceremony in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Dr. Coggan
appealed to Anglicans and Roman Catholics to "kneel together" in a joint communion.
