The Rt. Rev. James C. L. Wong kneels during his enthronement as Bishop of Taiwan. The Rt. Rev. L. C. Ogilby, Bishop of the Philippines, acting for the Presiding Bishop, officiated at the ceremony held in January in the Pro-Cathedral of St. John, Taipei, Taiwan. Standing behind Bishop Wong is the Ven. Patric Hutton, American missionary in Taiwan. Also in the picture are the Rev. John Y. L. Ling, who read the certificate of election, and Prof. Herbert H.P. Ma, warden of St. John's. After the blessing, Bishop Wong preached the sermon. Formerly Bishop of Jesselton, North Borneo, Bishop Wong was elected at the St. Louis General Convention to succeed the Rt. Rev. Charles G~l,1on as head of the 2,000 member church. He is the first Bishop in the Anglican Communion to come out of the background of the voluntary priesthood. From 1940 until 1960, when he was elected Assistant Bishop of Borneo, he was a naval architect and served parishes in Hong Kong without salary. Bishop Wong's jurisdiction includes the entire island of Taiwan, or Formosa, and he has under his charge 11 parishes and missions, 11 clergymen and three women workers.
