A sealift has brought some 65,000 refugees from Cuba to Florida this spring,
such as this boat load of homeless persons. Parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast
Florida have responded to an appeal by Bishop Calvin O. Schofield, Jr., for clothing for
the newly arrived immigrants. Presiding Bishop John M. Allin has issued a special appeal
for Episcopalians to respond to the refugee crisis with contributions and sponsorship of
those who have no families in the U. S. This year the Presiding Bishop's Fund has granted
$70,000 for the chartering of six flights to bring released political prisoners from Cuba to
Florida. Contributions may be made -- marked Cuban/Haitian Appeal -- to the Presiding
Bishop's Fund for World Relief, 815 Second Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017. (Photo
