[# 75226 -3 The hogans...]
The hogans of the Navajos, whether built in the traditional circular style of logs and mud, or the shoe box style of Anglo developers, are invariably miles away from water, electricity, medicine, groceries and civilization. More than half the 140, 000 Indian inhabitants of the Navajo Nation live outside the trade centers. Sixty percent are unemployed, and average per capita income is $850 per year.
