NEW YORK CITY: Intelligent Design: Theology and Science -- Some of today's foremost scholars and community leaders will gather at Church of the Ascension on January 25 at 6:45 p.m. to address the controversial topic, Intelligent Design: Theology and Science.
Panelists will include Dr. Robert Pollack, professor of biology at Columbia University; Dr. Joseph Hough, president of Union Theological Seminary; and the Rev. Mary Foulk, St. Luke-in-the-Fields, New York.
This event will be held in the Parish House and is free of charge.

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA: An all-Bach Evening -- Honoring the season of Epiphany, St. Patrick's Episcopal Church will present "A Mostly Bach Evening," January 27 at 7:30 p.m. St. Patrick's Musical Director Steve O'Connor will lead a baroque chamber ensemble in Bach and Vivaldi works. The concert launches the new season of "The Arts at St. Patrick's," a performance series that integrates diverse musical styles into the church experience.
The ensemble consists of two violins, viola, cello and oboe and features Dr. Eric Kinsley, harpsichord, and Don Krim, countertenor. Steve O'Connor will direct the ensemble and perform on organ. Pieces will include Vivaldi Cantata RV 674 and Bach's Trio Sonata in G minor and Cantata BMV 82 "Ich Habe Genug."
Epiphany is the third season of the Episcopal Church's liturgical year, beginning on January 6 and continuing until February 26.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Diocese of Atlanta to hold annual MLK Concert -- The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Concert sponsored by the Diocese of Atlanta and its Commission on Anti-Racism will be held at St. Bartholomew's on January 29 at 4 p.m.
The event attracts the participation of musicians throughout the diocese who perform an array of music by African-American composers, covering many styles and genres.
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Burnham will lecture at St. Paul's Church -- The Rev. Dr. Frederic Burnham, senior fellow at the Bennett J. Sims Institute for Servant Leadership and former director of Trinity Institute, will present two lectures on January 29 at St. Paul's Church, Fayetteville, Arkansas. At 10:00 a.m., he will speak of his experiences as one of the supervisors of ministry at St. Paul's Chapel (New York) in the aftermath of 9/11, "A Foretaste of the Kingdom: Finding God at Ground Zero."
His evening lecture, at 7:00 p.m., will focus on how individuals and organizations can confront even overwhelming challenges effectively as "Servant Leaders." "At Ground Zero, I witnessed the emergence of a unique kind of human community, one that had evolved spontaneously in the absence of hierarchical control and had a startling resemblance to the kind of community that Jesus espoused in his teachings." While in Fayetteville, Burnham will also meet with a group who are developing a Servant Leadership training program based at St. Paul's.

FORT WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA: Former rector of Trinity Church, New Orleans to preach --The Rev. Hill Riddle will preach at St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh and speak at the Rector's Forum on January 29. His discussion will be about the rebuilding of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Riddle is the former rector of Trinity Church, New Orleans and has been named by the bishop of Louisiana as his special assistant for Hurricane Katrina relief work. All are welcome to attend.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Centennial celebration of the birth of Dietrich Bonhoeffer - The life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Lutheran pastor, theologian and participant in the resistance movement against Nazism who took part in plots to assassinate Adolph Hitler, will be remembered during several events at Washington National Cathedral.

Bonhoeffer scholar and expert Wayne Whitson Floyd, Ph.D., director of the Cathedral College Center for Christian Formation and general editor of the complete English edition of Bonhoeffer's writings, "Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works," is available for comment.
Screening of Martin Doblmeier's Bonhoeffer in the Cathedral's Perry Auditorium, February 1, at 7 p.m. (Bonhoeffer is slated to air on PBS on February 6 at 10 pm EST); discussion with Martin Doblmeier will follow the screening.

BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA: Gregorian Chant: Its history, technique, and performance - Trinity Episcopal Church will sponsor a three-day workshop entitled "Gregorian Chant: Its history, technique, and performance." Dr. Charles Callahan, one of America's leading experts on the subject of chant, will lead the workshop beginning February 1 at St. Anne's R.C. Church, continuing on February 2 at Trinity and concluding on February 3 at Connelly Chapel at DeSales University. All three sessions begin at 7:30 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Prominent congregations organize musical revival -- Two influential churches-St. Paul Community Baptist Church in East
Brooklyn and Washington National Cathedral-are pooling time, talent and resources to a revival to benefit programs helping New Orleans rise from Katrina's destruction. The revival is scheduled for February 3, from 7-9 p.m. at Washington National Cathedral.
St. Paul Pastor Johnny Ray Youngblood, who was the subject of Samuel Freedman's book "Upon This Rock," will deliver a message of hope. Five hundred members of his congregation from St. Paul will accompany him, among them 100 liturgical dancers who will perform parts of the Maafa, a spiritual drama about the Middle Passage. The resilience represented in the dance compares to the resilience of the residents of New Orleans, explained by Cathedral Canon Missioner William Barnwell. Rebuilding Together (formerly known as Christmas in April), Unity Christian Baptist Church, and The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond, will benefit from the revival.

SAN FRANCISCO: Leaders of the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance honored -- The third annual Circle of Lights Festival will honor the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) and its leaders, the Very Rev. William Rankin, Dr. Charles Wilson, and Jones Laviwa, for their work providing community-based HIV/AIDS prevention and care in resource poor countries. The Gala will be held February 4 at the World Trade Club.
Rankin conceived, launched and currently heads GAIA. He is a past president, dean and professor of ethics at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA, and a former vice president for the United Religions Initiative. He is a former chair of the Episcopal Church's Standing Commission on Peace and Justice and was a Rockefeller Foundation fellow in the humanities and a visiting scholar at Cambridge University in England.
