Episcopal Divinity School has announced two new staff appointments: William Judge as chief financial officer and the Rev. Miriam Gelfer as dean of student and community life, according to an April 11 release from the seminary in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Judge, who has begun his work at EDS, has experience in higher education, most recently at the University of Massachusetts, as well as general nonprofit accounting and finance experience, the release said. He has been a controller, CFO, and chief information officer, and has filled planning and administration roles.
"Bill has a very deep and broad background in finance and strategic planning, has tremendous energy, and brings excellent skills including experience with information technology and in higher education to this position," said EDS Dean and President the Very Rev. Katherine Hancock Ragsdale in the release. "In addition, Bill has the experience building new partnerships and programs that will help us all achieve our vision for EDS' future."
Gelfer was ordained a priest in 1995 and has been rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner for 13 years, according to the release. She also serves as dean of the Charles River Deanery where, for the last five years, she has represented the diocese to 13 parishes, participating in ordinations, installations, conflict resolution and clergy reassignments. As dean, she is also currently serving as co-chair of the Campaign Advisory Committee for the diocese's capital campaign.
During her ordained ministry in the Diocese of Massachusetts, Gelfer has served as a member of the Commission on Ministry, liturgy and music Committee, clergy conference and clergy retreat planning committees and as a facilitator for the Fresh Start program. She was co-chair of the diocesan convention fundraiser for 2009, and has also served as the co-convener of the GLBT clergy group for the diocese.
Gelfer holds master's degrees in music education from the University of Southern Mississippi, Christian education from Union Presbyterian Seminary, and divinity from Episcopal Divinity School.
