NEW YORK CITY: Printed Bible lecture offered at GTS -- Paul Needham, librarian at the Scheide Library at Princeton University, will lead a lecture April 27, 7 p.m., titled "Printed Bibles from Gutenberg to King James at the General Theological Seminary (GTS) in New York City.
This inaugural event for the recently formed Friends of St. Mark's Library of GTS, who promotes the library as a distinguished collection of rare books and a scholarly resource, is open to the public. A reception will follow.

AUSTIN, Texas: Gathering 2006 set for April 27-29 -- Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church, Inc., presents Gathering 2006, April 27-29 at the Omni Hotel at Southpark in Austin, Texas.
Through four addiction workshops - gambling, food abuse, sex addiction and its impact on families and youth - participants will be lead by a person knowledgeable in the particular area who will identify the systems, describe the feelings of the person afflicted, make a presentation of recovery modes and the organizations associated with the malady, and then lead discussion. JACKSONVILLE, Florida: St. John's Cathedral to host 53rd Annual Deans' Conference -- St. John's Cathedral in Jacksonville, Florida will host the 53rd Annual Conference of North American Deans from April 27 - May 1. The theme of this year's conference is: "Cathedrals - Spaces for Reconciliation." Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold will be the conference keynoter. Bishop Griswold will also be the celebrant and preacher at the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist in the cathedral on Sunday, April 30.

BRONX, New York: St. Ann's Day set for April 29 -- For the third consecutive year, St. James' and St. Ann's Episcopal Church in the South Bronx will join together to celebrate Earth Day on April 29. During this event to which children are especially invited, flowers are planted around the St. Ann campus followed by prayers for its ministries, a procession to the more than 200 year-old cemetery and a celebration of Holy Communion in English and Spanish. The event concludes with a lunch of Caribbean and Latin American food prepared by St. Ann's and hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by St. James'. For more information call 212.288.4100.

SAN FRANCISCO: Organ recital set for Grace Cathedral -- Dr. Jeffrey Smith, director of music, will play Les Corps Glorieux, Messiaen's Easter suite for organ, April 30, 4 p.m., at Grace Cathedral.
This concert is one in Grace Cathedral's series of free organ concerts on most Sundays from September to June. Choral Evensong is sung prior to every organ recital at 3 p.m.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas: Former Cathedral Dean to speak on Jungian Spirituality -- J. Pittman McGehee, former dean of Christ Episcopal Cathedral in Houston, Texas and a popular speaker on the psychological work of Carl Jung, will be the next speaker in the McMichael Lecture Series at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, April 30, 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
McGehee's morning lecture is titled "Archetype and God's Image -- Jung's Psychology of God" and his evening address is titled "I Alone Must Become Myself; I Cannot Become Myself Alone: The Paradox of Individuation." A reception will follow.

NEW YORK CITY: Community Festival to be held at St. James -- St. James invites all to celebrate May Day at their Community Festival May 3. The day will include a Spring Boutique form 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and again from 6:30 p.m. - 11 p.m., raffle drawings throughout the evening and a silent auction. Holy Eucharist will be held at 6 p.m.

THE PLAINS, Virginia: Festival of the Arts and Music weekend planned -- The 59th Annual Neighborhood Art Show, Sale and Grace Church Concert series is set for May 5, 6, and 7 at Grace Church in The Plains, Virginia.
Artists of all media, ages and levels of experience are invited to exhibit. Adult entries are $15 each, with a limit of two. During this annual event that began in 1890, the medieval splendor of the Cathedral, centrally located downtown at 13th and Olive Streets, is arrayed in hundreds of vibrant flowers from Missouri Botanical Garden. FORT WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania: St. Thomas' Church will host Bill Countryman -- "Praying with the Poets" and "Sexual Orientations: What are the Issues for Anglicans?" are the topics of two workshops led by the Rev. Dr. Bill Countryman, Sherman E. Johnson Professor in Biblical Studies at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and a member of the doctoral faculty of the Graduate Theological Union. Countryman is a priest of the Episcopal Church and has served in parish ministries for many years. He is the author of a wide range of books on topics relating to scripture, spirituality and ethics.

SAN FRANCISCO: Grace Cathedral hosts organ recital - Robert Nicholls, winner of the 2000 AGO National Competition in Organ Improvisation, will perform May 7 at 4 p.m., at Grace Cathedral.
He currently serves as director of Music of First Presbyterian Church, Evansville, Indiana. His program will include Reger's "Introduction and Passacaglia in D minor";
Delius's "The Walk to the Paradise Garden," arranged by Dom Gregory Murray; Elgar's "Triumphal March from Caractacus"; and an "Improvisation."

THOUSAND OAKS, California: Matt Harris Jazz Combo to play at St. Patrick's -- The Matt Harris Jazz Combo will play during service, May 7, 10:15 a.m., at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Thousand Oaks. The combo's appearance will mark the continuation of "The Arts at St. Patrick's," a performance series that integrates diverse musical styles into the church experience.
Harris, director of Jazz Studies at Cal State Northridge and a Thousand Oaks resident, is a writer/arranger who has played with Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Rita Moreno and Tom Jones. His combo consists of Harris on piano, Domenic Genova on bass and Lee Spath on drums.

BERKELEY, California: Commencement at Church Divinity School of the Pacific - Church Divinity School of the Pacific will hold its commencement ceremony on May 19 at 10:30 a.m.
Forty-four seminary students will receive their degrees. In addition, honorary degrees will be conferred upon the Rev. Ardith Spierling Hayes, director of the Doctor of Ministry Program, CDSP; the Rev. Roger Alling, president, Episcopal Preaching Foundation, Inc., Camp Hill, PA; the Rev. John Barton Sarjeant '65, former rector, St. John's Episcopal Church, Ross, CA; the Rev. Thomas H. Schultz, O.H.C. (Order of the Holy Cross), prior, Incarnation Priory, Berkeley, CA; and Dr. A. NEW YORK CITY: New York Episcopalians will unite for AIDS walk -- Episcopalians in the Diocese of New York will participate as a group in the 21st annual AIDS Walk New York on May 21. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Episcopal Response to AIDS (ERA) will participate as a diocesan coalition to raise funds for AIDS treatment and research. Last year 75 diocesan participants raised more than $35,000.
This year's participation by ERA walkers will have special significance, as ERA has become a community partner organization with Gay Men's Health Crisis, the AIDS Walk sponsor. Diocesan coalition AIDS walkers can now have a portion of their fundraising go toward ongoing parish based AIDS outreach projects throughout the Diocese.
Coordinators for this year's event are Suzanne Culhane, St. John's in the Village, Manhattan, and Donald Snyder, St. Michael's, Manhattan.
