"That All May Worship”: From Barriers to Bridges: An Interfaith Conference on Religion and Disability will be held September 13, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 200 Pleasant Street.

DALLAS, Texas: Archbishop Desmond Tutu to speak at Transfiguration
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and international activist for democracy, human rights and religious tolerance, will speak at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas on September 13 at 7 p.m.
Tutu's visit is part of the church's Jubilee (50th) Anniversary.

NEW YORK CITY: Celebration of the Millennium Development Goals
Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold and Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will soon release a joint pastoral letter and reflection on global poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) entitled "That All May be One."
The document, which calls Episcopalians and Lutherans to joint witness in the fight to end global poverty through initiatives like the ONE Campaign, will be celebrated on September 15 at a 12:10 p.m. joint Holy Eucharist where Hanson will be the celebrant and Griswold the preacher.
All EPPN members in the New York City area are invited to attend. Audio and video streams will be available after the event on the Episcopal Church website.

TOPEKA, Kansas: Biblical scholar Witherington set to discuss latest work
Noted biblical scholar and author Dr. Ben Witherington III will visit Grace Episcopal Cathedral on September 16, 7 p.m., to discuss his latest book and September 17, 10:30 a.m., to serve as guest preacher at the worship service.
Witherington is the professor of New Testament Interpretation at Asbury Theological seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, and the author of more than 30 books. His lecture "Rising to the Occasion: the Resurrection of Jesus, the Reception of the Spirit, and the Proclamation of the Church," is free, and open to the public. It will be followed by a reception and book signing.

FORT WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania: St. Thomas' to extend summer schedule
As St. Thomas' will be unexpectedly and temporarily served by only one full-time priest, the rector and vestry have chosen to stay with the summertime worship schedule as we enter the fall. Many parishioners are thrilled as this allows for one large worship experience at 10 a.m. that fosters great community and fellowship. Starting September 17, Sundays at St. Thomas' will include:
8:00 a.m.: Holy Eucharist Rite I in the Church
9 – 9:50 a.m.: Church School (K to 8th grades), coffee and the Rector’s Forum in MacColl Auditorium
9 – 9:40 a.m.: First Steps to Worship with Pastor Bill deHeyman (in Parish House Living Room)
10 a.m.: Holy Eucharist Rite II (with little Disciples Worship led by Pastor Bill in Haas Hall)
11:15 a.m.: Coffee and conversation after worship on the lawn or in MacColl Auditorium. The Breakfast Club will meet for teenagers in the 9th – 12th grades (in the Youth Room)

IRVINGTON, New York: Interfaith youth dialogue
On September 17, from 3 - 5:30 p.m., the Center for Jewish-Christian-Muslim Understanding (CJCMU) is sponsoring a special interfaith youth event entitled, "The Stranger Among Us," at the Church of St. Barnabas in Irvington, New York.
A trained facilitator will conduct a dialogue between young people of different faiths -- six Jewish, six Christian, and six Muslim -- in an effort to foster greater appreciation for those from different religious traditions.

NEW YORK CITY: London Bishop Chartres delivers Seventh Annual Hobart Lecture
The Seventh Annual Hobart Lecture featuring the Rt. Rev. and Rt. Honorable Richard J. Chartres, Bishop of London, will be held September 20 at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine’s Synod Hall, in New York City.
The lecture series is named for Bishop John Henry Hobart, the third bishop of New York (1816 to 1830), remembered for his dedication, especially in pastoral ministry. During his episcopacy, Hobart increased the number of clergy in the diocese and established missions and churches into the far reaches of New York State. His commitment to education is evident as he was one of the founders of General Theological Seminary and was the reviver of Geneva College, now Hobart College.

BENNINGTON, Vermont: Free course on energy conservation at St. Peter's
This fall, a free course, open to the public, is being offered at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Bennington, Vermont. From the energy we buy and use, to the food we eat, to the clothing we wear, to the modes of transportation we employ, every decision we make has an impact on the earth, "our island home."
The community is invited to join in exploring ways to live simply and responsibly as stewards of God's creation. The course sessions will be offered on Sundays from September 24 to November 26, 9:05 to 9:55 a.m., and on Wednesdays, from September 20 to November 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Part of this course will include the viewing and discussion of the nationally recognized film on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth," October 3 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

The funeral of Verna Dozier will be held September 30 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Capitol Hill, 118 Third Street SE.
Bishop Jane Holmes Dixon, retired suffragan of Washington, will preside. Bishop Michael Curry of North Carolina will be among the eulogists.
LONG ISLAND, New York: Memorial Service for Joyce Hogg
A memorial service for Joyce Hogg, honorary canon of the Cathedral and dedicated communicant of this Diocese, is schedule for September 30, 12 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
Since the early 1970s she served as a volunteer in various capacities in the Diocese, Province II and the National Episcopal Church. She was president and treasurer for the Diocesan Episcopal Church Women, a member of Diocesan Council, vice president and treasurer of Episcopal Charities, and diocesan coordinator for Episcopal Relief and Development. In 1997 she joined the staff of the Presiding Bishop as director of Networks and Special Projects prior to becoming Network Director of Episcopal Relief and Development.
All are welcome to celebrate the life of this most remarkable woman.

BENNINGTON, Vermont: St. Peter’s set for the Blessing of the Animals
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will join congregations nationwide in celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a festive Eucharist and Blessing of the Animals Service on October 8.
At 9 a.m., there will be an educational program in the parish hall that will provide information about animal-related programs. There will be a pet parade with ribbons for all. At 10 a.m., there will be a procession of the animals into the church where individual blessings will be given for each animal. Following the blessings, the service will continue with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Refreshments for all, animals and humans, will follow the Eucharist. Please have appropriate restraints (leash, carrier, bowl, etc.) for your animal. The dogs bark, the cats meow, the hamsters and ferrets tend to be quieter.
You don't have to be a member of St. Peter's to attend the service. All are welcome.

NEW YORK CITY: Bishop Gene Robinson to speak at General Seminary
"Building Inclusive Communities" will be the subject of an address by Bishop Gene Robinson on October 12 at the General Theological Seminary (GTS) in Chelsea.
The address, which begins at 7 p.m., will be preceded by an outdoor reception at 6 p.m., in the Seminary's gardens.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington, Vermont will host an anti-racism awareness workshop aimed at teaching participants how to work together to build bridges among all people on October 14, 8:30 a.m.-3:p.m.
The day will consist of one-on-one and all-group discussions, videos, as well as several exercises that will help all in attendance begin to understand the issue of racism and especially the concept of "white privilege."

NEW YORK CITY: Interchurch Center host first women in religion conference
More than 60 female religion educators, leaders, activists and scholars representing many faiths from around the world will present in New York October 17-19 at the first "Conference on Women in Religion in the 21st Century: Commemorating, Celebrating, and Continuing Their Legacy."
Sponsored by the Interchurch Center, home to more than 60 faith and non-profit agencies, the conference will look at the role of women in the history of religion, as well as those relationships in the future.
In addition, the conference will honor Ruth Stafford Peale, first woman chair of the Board of Trustees who was a guiding force in the establishment of the Interchurch Center. Ruth, with her husband, the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, started Guideposts ministries in upstate New York.
The conference begins at 10 a.m. on October 17, and concludes at 3 p.m. on October 19.

African-American musicologist and editor Horace Clarence Boyer will be in New Brunswick at the Hyatt Hotel on October 7, 11 a.m.- 2:30 p.m., to give a lecture presentation on Lift Every Voice and Sing II (LEVAS II), the African-American hymnal published by the Episcopal Church.

NEW YORK CITY: Celebrating ministries of the Presiding Bishop and his wife
On October 22 at 5 p.m., Church of the Heavenly Rest will host a Festive Choral Evensong to celebrate the ministries of Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold and his wife Phoebe.
The evensong will feature two anthems with texts by the Presiding Bishop set to music by composer Bruce Saylor and the offering from this service will be donated to Anglican Women's Empowerment (AWE), of which Phoebe is a founding member.
Featured works to be performed include:
Anthem: "Welcome the Morning Star", Scored for a cappella SATB choir, for the
University Choir, Harvard University, Edward Jones, organist and director of Music;
Anthem: "The Power of Your Love", Scored for three treble voices and a cappella mixed choir, commissioned by Summerfest, Saint James Cathedral, Chicago in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Griswold’s consecration as Bishop of Chicago;
"Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in G" by Bruce Saylor. Composed in memory of Giovanni Conticello;
