KENTUCKY: Bishop-elect Terry Allen White completes consent process

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori's office announced Sept. 16 that Bishop-elect Terry Allen White of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky has received the required number of consents from bishops with jurisdiction and diocesan standing committees to his ordination and consecration.
White, 50, was elected June 5 as the eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky on the second ballot from a field of four nominees.
He received 40 of 76 votes cast in the lay order and 35 of 56 cast in the clergy order at a special electing convention at Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in Louisville.
His consecration and ordination is slated for Sept. 25 at The Galt House in Louisville. The presiding bishop will officiate.
He will be formally seated Sunday, Sept. 26 at Christ Church Cathedral.
Most recently White served as dean of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. Edwin "Ted" G. Gulick, 61, who became bishop in 1994.
While White has received the necessary majority of consents, consents will continue to be accepted up to and including the Nov. 10 deadline.
As outlined under Canon III.11.4(a), the presiding bishop confirmed the receipt of consents from a majority of bishops with jurisdiction (diocesan bishops only), and has also reviewed the evidence of consents from a majority of the diocesan standing committees of the church.
