LOS ANGELES, California: Episcopal Migration Ministries to hold national conference
Affiliate staff and friends of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) from across the country will meet for a national conference November 15-17, in Los Angeles, California around the theme "Keeping Faith in an Age of Fear."
Those gathered will address the challenges of welcoming refugees and immigrants in a political and social climate that is increasingly inhospitable to them and recommit to the church’s ministry with the uprooted. EMM has invited national and international partners to educate and inform the group about domestic and global refugee concerns and migration trends. Among these guests are representatives from the U.S. Department of State, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In addition, for inspiration the Rev. Dr. James Lemler, director of Mission for the Episcopal Church, will offer reflections entitled "Love and Fear: Which Will Be Our Foundation?" that will recall and reinforce the biblical mandate to embrace the stranger.
The achievements of EMM affiliates in the area of refugee resettlement and support will also be acknowledged and celebrated at the gathering. The conference promises to engage and invigorate the EMM network for ongoing service to the uprooted.
