Chaplain in Japan Coordinates Relief Effort

Diocesan Press Service. April 7, 1966 [42-7]

On Jan. 11 a fire in the northern Japanese city of Misawa left 1,300 families homeless.

Three days later, at a conference of committees of the Diocese of Tohoku of the Nippon Seikokai (the Holy Catholic Church in Japan), it was decided that each parish and mission in the diocese would designate an offering for relief of the victims of the fire.

There is no Nippon Seikokai parish in Misawa, but an American Episcopal chaplain, Chaplain Robert P. Holdt, is stationed at an adjacent U. S. Air Force base. The offerings were, therefore, forwarded to him as Custodian of the Misawa Chapel Relief Fund.

In a letter of thanks to contributing parishes, Chaplain Holdt noted that he was proud to see that concern in the Tohoku Diocese extended to the stranger as well as sister dioceses and communions.
