Help for Vietnam Refugees
Diocesan Press Service. June 6, 1966 [44-9]
Twenty-six professional persons will arrive in Vietnam this summer to augment volunteer medical-social welfare teams already there under the auspices of Vietnam Christian Service.
Total personnel will then be 55, all of whom were recruited for service by Church World Service, Lutheran World Relief and the Mennonite Central Committee. In Vietnam the three agencies operate through Vietnam Christian Service, an organization formed in January.
VCS hopes to establish about 10 social welfare centers in strategic Vietnam refugee areas this year. At the moment there are 800,000 refugees in South Vietnam and the number is increasing daily. Already some 29 volunteers are working in the suburbs of Saigon, Pleiku, and Nha Trang giving medical and social aid to thousands of refugees there.
Contributions may be made through the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief and Interchurch Aid.
