The Archbishop of Canterbury will tour Canada during September. The visit will include points all the way from Newfoundland to British Columbia.
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church has become the ninth participant member of the Consultation on Church Union. The Church dates back to 1796 and has 770,000 members.
The Rt. Rev. Santos M. Molina, Bishop of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church, died in Madrid August 2 at the age of 65. The Spanish Episcopal Reformed Church is a part of the Wider Episcopal Fellowship and is in communion with the Episcopal Church in the United States.
The Anglican Diocese of Accra, which includes all of Ghana, will be divided into three separate dioceses it was announced by the Rt. Rev. Richard Roseveare, Bishop of Accra.
Dr. Z. K. Matthews, secretary for Africa of the World Council of Churches' Division of Inter-Church Aid, Refugee and World Service has accepted the invitation to become Ambassador in Washington and Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Botswana (Bechuanaland), a British protectorate in Africa which receives its independence on Sept. 30.
The needs of youth in the towns of Southbridge, Sturbridge and Charlton, Mass. have become the concern of a new ecumenical council. Protestant, Anglican and Roman Catholic clergymen, cooperating with YMCA official, have started an Inter-Faith Youth Council made up of teenagers from 15 churches in these towns. The experimental Council is intended to provide needed social, recreational and physical activities for the youth.
New Movements in Theology and Ethics will be the theme of the 1966 St. Luke's Day Convocation at the School of Theology in Sewanee, Tenn. Oct. 18 - 19. The lecturer will be Professor William A. Clebsch of Stanford University. Clergy seminars on the new morality will by led by Professors C. Fitzsimons Allison, J. Howard Rhys, Charles Winters, Henry Myers, John Gessell, William A. Griffin, G. Cecil Woods, Jr. and Stiles Lines.
James P. Twomey, Episcopal layman and currently head of the Community Renewal Foundation in Chicago, has been named deputy director of the Local Development Services Division of Urban America, Inc. effective Oct. 1. The Executive Council, at its June meeting, voted to enter into an agreement with Urban America, Inc., whereby that organization would provide technical assistance to church groups involved in low cost housing. Similar agreements have been entered into by several other denominations.
