Bishop Corrigan Preaches at Unity Service
Diocesan Press Service. February 3, 1967 [51-13]
On Sunday, Jan. 22, celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, metropolitan area Christians gathered in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, the scene of one of Pope Paul's stops during his visit to New York in October 1965.
The preacher for the occasion was The Rt. Rev. Daniel Corrigan, director of Executive Council's Home Department. He challenged the congregation, which overflowed the modern interior of the church, to work for progress in Christian unity on the local front. He said that such efforts make ecumenical dialogues on a national, or international level, much easier, for they provide the ground upon which such discussions can take place.
Participating in the service of prayer, scripture reading, and hymns were clergymen from many midtown New York parishes - Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Baptist.
Representing Presiding Bishop Hines was Peter Day, Ecumenical Officer.
