Release on Election of Bishop Manguramas

MANILA, The Philippines (DPS) -- The Rt. Rev. Constancio B. Manguramas, Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Missionary Diocese of The Philippines, was recently elected Bishop of the newly-created Diocese composed of the southern section of The Philippines.
The House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church, at its meeting in October, 1971, approved the division of the Missionary Diocese of The Philippines into three Dioceses and granted permission for each jurisdiction to elect its own Bishop.
Bishop Manguramas, who was born October 25, 1933, at Mirab, Upi, Cotabato, was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of The Philippines on February 24, 1968.
The Rt. Rev. Benito C. Cabanban, Bishop of the Missionary Diocese of The Philippines, has exercised a canonical privilege and decided to be Bishop of the Diocese in the central area of The Philippines. The newly-formed Diocese in the northern section will elect its Bishop soon.
