SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- One of the effective organizations which seeks to minister to those with a drug problem is CREDO (Chaplains Relevance to the Emerging Drug Order), based here. Begun in April, 1970, as an innovative ministry to chaplains and those to whom they minister, CREDO is directed by Lieutenant Commander Don H. Harris, CHC, USN, a priest in the Episcopal Church. Its impact is achieved through workshops attended by chaplains, chiefs, petty officers, line officers, doctors, WAVES, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, lawyers, and seamen. There is no delineation between sick or well, helper or helped, doper or straight. Those who desire may continue the experience at CREDO House in San Diego, where they commit themselves to a regular attendance of three to five hours a week in their off-duty hours. Although the primary focus is on the person with a drug problem, CREDO permeates the entire structure of the naval services and ministers to the depressed and frustrated person who senses his impotence within the system.
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Many bishops and priests in the Episcopal Church have been receiving collect telephone calls from two ladies in New York City, claiming that they are in dire financial need and asking for help. Investigation has indicated that this is not the case. Sometimes they claim to be friends of a prominent Episcopalian, now deceased, who has helped them in the past. Clergymen should be alerted that these calls are becoming more and more common and that they should accept collect calls with caution. Credentials should be requested before making any cash gifts.
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Sister Constance Anna, retired missionary, died here recently. Born in 1884, she was appointed a missionary in 1918 and served in China until her return to the United States in May, 1947, in preparation for retirement in October, 1947. She retired to the House of Bethany of her Order, the Community of the Transfiguration, in Cincinnati.
