JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- "Turn On, Tune In and Reach Out", that's the message churchmen in north east Florida are now receiving.
On Sunday, October 8 TV sets will be set up in parish halls and churches of the 66 congregations in the Diocese of Florida where Episcopalians will tune in to "Mission 73 -- Pass It On", an especially produced telecast on the life, work and mission of the Episcopal Church in Florida and throughout the world.
The half hour program which is being videotaped at the studios of Channel 12, Jacksonville, will be broadcast at 10:00 a.m., October 8 simultaneously from Jacksonville, Tallahassee (Channel 6) and Gainesville (Channel 20).
The mass media event will launch the stewardship education program for the diocese and will help prepare the person in the pew to participate responsibly in the planning of mission strategies for the future.
The event introduces a new concept in Episcopal visitation in that it allows the Bishop to visit all the congregations in the Diocese at the same time. The idea for the Florida telecast is being borrowed from the Diocese of East Carolina where it was successfully introduced by the Rev. Frank F. Fagan.
Responsible for the Florida media event are William Parrish, Diocesan Stewardship Chairman, and the Rev. Robert M. G. Libby, Director of Development at the Jacksonville Episcopal High School.
"We are looking forward to reporting to all the members of our Diocesan family on the mission of the Church," stated the Rt. Rev. Hamilton West, Bishop of the Diocese of Florida. "Where we've been, who we are, and where we're going. Our prayer is that through this electronic event our people will experience a new sense of unity and purpose. "
