Bread for Southeast Florida
Diocesan Press Service. November 8, 1972 [72187]
A new Bible reading program has been adopted by the Diocese of Southeast Florida to tie in with Key '73, the interdenominational evangelistic effort to carry Christ's message to the entire North American continent in 1973.
"BREAD" -- acronym for Bible Reading Emphasis and Discovery - - has been developed by the Bible Reading Fellowship in the United States. It features daily study of the Gospel of St. Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, the scriptures to be emphasized by Key '73. The Diocese of Southeast Florida hopes to have this program in the hands of all its communicants during the coming year. Every parish will be encouraged to organize one or more classes for directed Bible study and group discussion.
The Diocese of Central Florida also, at its November Convention, will consider adopting this program.
" BREAD" has been designed to draw people into a deeper study of the Bible. It can be used by people already knowledgable in the Bible and by those just developing an interest in it.
One subscription to " BREAD " offers one year and eight months of directed Bible reading. For the first four months a subscriber will receive: daily notes for the study of the Gospel of St. Luke; "Introduction to the Bible" by William Barclay; a discussion leaders' guide; and notes for supplementary studies.
The second four months will include: daily notes on the Acts of the Apostles; "Outline of the Bible " by Benson Landis; a discussion leaders' guide; and notes for supplementary studies.
The following twelve months will provide: daily Bible readings in the Series A Notes of the Bible Reading Fellowship; and a discussion leaders' guide.
The two books, both written by internationally respected Biblical scholars, will provide information on the historical background, chronology, authorship, content, and literary value of the Bible.
It is hoped that "BREAD", through daily Bible study, will bring men a profound sense of the Presence of God in their lives and a renewed vitality for Christ in our age.
