Linz Named President of Seabury Press

NEW YORK, N.Y. (DPS) -- Werner Mark Linz has been named President of the Seabury Press, the official publishing house of the Episcopal Church.

Mr. Linz has been Executive Vice President of Herder and Herder for the last six years, and since that firm was acquired by McGraw - Hill he has been General Manager with overall administrative responsibility for finance, editorial, and marketing of the Herder and Herder operation.

From the founding of Herder and Herder in New York 15 years ago, Mr. Linz has had a decisive part in the development and marketing of the company's diversified publishing program encompassing some 100 new titles annually and ranging from scholarly reference works to textbooks, paperbacks and general trade books. As part of Mr. Linz's activities in the publishing industry, he has served on the National Committee on Federal Education and Library Programs, and he is currently the Chairman of the Religious Book Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers.

Seabury will continue to serve the Episcopal Church in the development of Christian education materials, and it will offer its professional publishing facilities to all agencies of the Church, acting also as a retail mail center for a wide variety of resources.

Commenting on Seabury's future, Mr. Linz stated: "As a growing publishing house, Seabury Press will continue and expand its list of religious books, Christian education materials, and books for young people. Part of Seabury's mission as the official publishing house of the Episcopal Church is to provide leadership and a forum for authors and ideas, which help to shape the future issues of the Church. In addition, Seabury Press will develop a challenging new program of books of general interest in the areas of social, behavioral and educational concern. "

Mr. Linz succeeds John C. Goodbody, now the Communication Officer of the Episcopal Church. Mr. Goodbody continues his association with Seabury as a member of the Board of Trustees.
