Letter From Richard Anderson
Diocesan Press Service. January 9, 1973 [73009]
The Rev. Canon Richard J. Anderson
Communications Officer
Dear Fellow Communicators:
As some of you know I have been asked to edit the Convention Daily, a tabloid newspaper to be issued each meeting day during the General Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, later this year. I have asked Ben P. Campbell of the Diocese of Virginia to serve as associate editor and we will be working with a staff made up of communications people from throughout the church.
I would like, of course, for the Convention Daily to be of maximum use to the church. In addition to carrying the "hard news" of official Convention acts I plan to include as many background and feature stories as possible. A few people who will be at the Convention in various capacities have agreed to write brief viewpoint pieces each day, and the final issue will be double in size and contain a summary "wrap-up" of the entire meeting.
There are a number of ways in which you can help with the Convention Daily. If you plan to be in Louisville during all or part of the Convention, please be alert for interesting feature or story ideas and let us know when they come up. We won't be able to pay for such articles but we can hand out some by-lines and our thanks.
In a few weeks you'll receive a Convention Daily subscription form suitable for reproduction in your publication. If your own policy will permit, I'd like for you to run the blank once or twice. Those subscribing will receive air-mailed copies sent from Louisville early each morning of publication. You will be doing the Convention Daily staff a big favor and also helping to circulate news of the Convention throughout the church if you encourage people in your area to subscribe.
Meanwhile please send your comments, ideas, suggestions, etc., about the Convention Daily to me. I would appreciate hearing from you. Editing the paper will no doubt involve some fun, responsibility and hard work. So thanks for any help you can give me.
Faithfully,
Richard J. Anderson
P.S. If you're in Louisville next fall, stop by the Daily office for a cup of coffee. I'd like to meet you. - R.J.A.
