NEW YORK, N.Y. -- During the fall of 1972, 101 Episcopalians traveled 463,635 miles -- approximately the distance of a round trip to the moon -- as teams of fact-finders into. all the dioceses of the Episcopal Church in preparation for the Church's next General Convention at Louisville, Ky., in the fall of 1973.

One hundred and one Episcopalians are entitled to wear a special green and white lapel button which identifies them as "The Chicago 101", the group of visitors to the dioceses who gathered for a weekend training session in Chicago last September.

The fact-finding teams, composed of Executive Council members, linkage staff, and other church leaders, sought the answers from diocesan leaders to three questions: what needs in church and society do you think the General Church Program should attempt to meet, what should our priorities be, and how should we fund them?

The 101 fact-finders visited 91 of the 92 domestic dioceses, plus Alaska, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico, during a three-month period.

The Executive Council will propose to General Convention a program and budget for 1974-76 based on the data gathered from the fall visits, as well as requests from all agencies, groups and structural entities in the Church which initiate and/or administer program.

The data will be presented to the Executive Council at its February meeting and at that time the Council will decide on the preliminary substance and form of the program and budget proposal to be submitted to General Convention. The final report will be adopted at its May meeting.
