Jarrow Press to Publish New Life

Diocesan Press Service. May 10, 1973 [73131]

BOSTON, Mass. -- "To reach out, to make a difference in the world, to witness to Christ, to lead the new life, these are the goals of many Episcopalians today in a growing world of evangelism and personal religion, " said Philip Deemer, president of Jarrow Press, Inc., in announcing that Jarrow would begin publication in May of its bimonthly periodical New Life. Mr. Deemer added that the new publication will help individuals find new and ever-expanding ways of witnessing to their faith through the many outlet for personal witness that have developed and expanded in recent years in the Episcopal Church.

Much of the editorial content of the new publication will be concerned with the life and activities of organizations and events in the Episcopal Church -- such as lay witnessing, religious orders, study groups, devotional organizations, retreats, camps and conferences, cursillos and the charismatic movement -- with emphasis on increased spiritual life. One of the features of New Life will be to give as complete as possible a coverage of coming events so that individuals interested in participating in such events can know about them before they happen. New Life will also give coverage to events that have taken place as well, and it is intended to make the publication a clearinghouse that will gather in as much resource information as possible from dioceses, parishes, seminaries and organizations, and communicate this information to both laymen and clergy throughout the Church.

For several years Jarrow Press published an annual review of life in the Episcopal Church entitled Episcopal Year. During this period it became evident that there was a need for a publication that would inform Episcopalians about news of evangelism, personal religion and programs in the Church that provide for increasing spiritual life. Believing that evangelism is the keystone of any Church's successful ministry and spiritual growth, New Life will offer an available communication opportunity for Churchmen to reach others and share their own good news and the Good News with one another.

Editor of New Life will be Philip Deemer, formerly editor of Episcopal Year and currently editor of the Fish International Newsletter, a periodical published by Jarrow Press in behalf of the ecumenical Fish lay ministry. Arthur J. Goldsmith, Jr., currently production manager for Jarrow Press, will be the associate editor of New Life.

All dioceses, organizations and institutions of the Church are requested to put New Life on their mailing lists. The deadline for material for inclusion will be the 15th of the month preceding publication. The bimonthly issues will be published in January, March, May, July, September and November, commencing with the May 1973 issue.

Subscriptions may be obtained at $4.00 a year from New Life, 29 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Mass. 02116.
