Communicators will Gather in Louisville

Diocesan Press Service. September 11, 1973 [73208]

More than 250 communications representatives have already registered for General Convention in Louisville, September 29 - October 11. Representing more than two-thirds of the dioceses in the Episcopal Church, the independent Church press, and the secular press, they will provide the network which will disseminate news, features, and views of General Convention to the man and woman in the pew back home. The co-opted staff of the Convention newsroom in Louisville, organized by Walter Boyd, Press Officer for the Executive Council Staff, will be composed of diocesan communications personnel from California, Colorado, Louisiana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and Western New York. Special reporters from more than a dozen dioceses will do special assignments for The Convention Daily on a volunteer basis.

As a part of the general orientation of news gatherers and chairmen of diocesan communications organizations, the Episcopal Communicators, an informal group of concerned diocesan editors and news persons, will host a get-together on Sunday morning, September 30, in the Label Room of the Executive Inn, located on the Watterson Expressway. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m., to be followed by an orientation and discussion period. Information regarding the services and facilities which will be available to news personnel at Convention will be outlined by the Convention press staff. An explanation of the organization of the Episcopal Communicators will also be presented. Opportunity for discussion about immediate and long-range concerns of communicators will be afforded: Executive Council's communications budget, national independent news services, special problems with regard to Convention coverage.

At 11:00 a.m. the Rt. Rev. John M. Allin, Bishop of Mississippi and chairman of Executive Council's Program Group on Communication, will celebrate a Eucharist with the communicators in the Canterbury Room of the Executive Inn.

In order that reservations may be made for the right number of persons who will attend the orientation and celebration, it is requested that the following form be filled out and returned as soon as possible.
