Dewire Appointed Director of Joint Strategy and Action Committee

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Rev. Norman E. Dewire will become the first Executive Director for the Joint Strategy and Action Committee (JSAC) in Spring, 1969, it has been announced by the JSAC Board headquartered at 475 Riverside Drive, New York City.
The Rev. Mr. Dewire has been Executive Secretary of the Detroit Conference Board of Missions and Church Extension, The United Methodist Church, since 1967. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he was educated at the Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, and Boston University, where he received the STB degree in 1962.
He served a series of pastorates in rural poverty, small town and center city areas before going to the Detroit Conference post, where he was responsible for the development of ecumenical, experimental ministries.
The Joint Strategy and Action Committee represents the mission agencies of the American Baptist Home Mission Societies; The Division of Christian Life and Mission, National Council of Churches; Executive Council of the Episcopal Church; Board of National Ministries, Presbyterian Church in the United States; The United Church Board of Homeland Ministries; National Division, Board of Missions, United Methodist Church; Board of National Missions, United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.
The Rev. Mr. Dewire will provide leadership for the JSAC denominations in developing commitment to common goals, definition of common strategy and investment in common action -- especially as regards the engagement of the ecumenical church with issues of social change and of its own structural change.
