SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- A national conference of Asian American Episcopalians has been scheduled for February 7 -9, in San Francisco.

According to the Rev. Winston W. Ching, recently appointed interim coordinator of a new ministry with Asian American Episcopalians, the conference is designed "to form the ministry of the Episcopal Church to Asian Americans. "

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church, meeting in the fall of 1973 in Louisville, Ky., established the national ministry with Asian American Episcopalians, with an annual budget of $50, 000.

According to Mr. Ching, the goal of this ministry is to strengthen and expand the work of the Episcopal Church among Asian Americans, to develop a ministry to meet the needs of immigrants from Asia, and to work ecumenically "to articulate a theology and to develop a strategy to present the Gospel to Asians in a more meaningful way. "

Mr. Ching, vicar of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco, was appointed by Presiding Bishop John E. Hines in December, 1973, to be the staff person for six months to establish this ministry nationally.

The invitation to the national conference in San Francisco is extended not only to clergy and lay delegates from existing congregations of Asian Americans, but to other clergy and lay persons of Asian background and to those who have served Asian congregations in domestic and overseas jurisdictions.
