Former Council Member and Wife Killed in Bali Crash

DENPASAR, Indonesia -- A former member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, and his wife, were among the 107 persons killed in the crash of a Pan American 707 jetliner on the Indonesian island of Bali on April 22.
Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Causey of West Point, Va., were enroute to visit their daughter, Paula Jane, who is on the U.S. embassy staff in Jarkata, when the plane went down in flames in mountainous terrain near the western tip of Bali and about 600 miles east of Jarkata, the capital of Indonesia. Also surviving is a son, John Paul Causey, Jr., of West Point.
All of the crew of 10 and 97 passengers, including 28 Americans, were killed. The victims were buried near the site of the crash.
Mr. Causey, 58, a native of Chevy Chase, Md., was a practicing attorney in West Point. Mrs. Causey was the former Virginia Dorothy Midgett.
Mr. Causey had been an elected deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church from the Diocese of Virginia a number of times, and had served on several of its committees and commissions. He was elected by the Convention to the Executive Council in 1964 and served until 1970.
A memorial service was held for Mr. and Mrs. Causey in their home parish, St. John's, in West Point, on May 3. Mr. Causey had held a number of positions in the parish, including lay reader and a member of the vestry. He also held a number of positions in the Diocese of Virginia.
