NEW YORK, N. Y. -- The Standing Commission on Church Music announces that full editions of Songs for Liturgy and More Hymns and Spiritual Songs and multiple copies of individual pieces in the book are available through Walton Music Corporation (17 West 60th St., New York, N.Y. 10023).
Songs for Liturgy and More Hymns and Spiritual Songs, first published in 1971, is presented in open-ended form, bound in springclaws to allow for the addition of new material and at present comprises 76 canticles, anthems and 'songs' of some elaboration together with 71 hymns.
This is an adaptable and adventurous service book, bringing together music both traditional and new. Some examples of hymns are: "Come my way, my truth, my life " by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "A stranger once did bless the earth" by Heinrich Schutz, "Personnent Hodie " by Gustav Holst, "O Clap Your Hands " (Handbells, Triangle and Tambourine) by Peter Hallock, "Benedictus " by Ronald Arnatt and settings by John Ireland, Vincent Persichetti, Sydney Carter, Jean Langlais, Erik Routley, Leo Sowerby and many others.
Parish musicians are urged to expose their congregations to this new collection and use it as often as possible.
