Mrs. Webb Named Director of WCC Commission

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Mrs. Muriel S. Webb, an Episcopalian, has been appointed director of the Commission on Inter-Church Aid, Refugee and World Service (CICARWS) of the World Council of Churches (WCC). Her appointment was confirmed recently at the Central Committee meeting of the WCC in Berlin.

Mrs. Webb will succeed the Rev. Alan Brash of New Zealand on Oct. 1. CICARWS is the major channel for humanitarian aid from the 271 Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican Churches in the WCC. Her office will be at the WCC headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mrs. Webb, 61, was director of the section for experimental and specialized services of the Episcopal Church's national Executive Council staff from 1968 to 1971. A member of the Council staff from 1947, she held various positions relating to Christian social relations.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Webb is the immediate past chairperson of Church World Service, the relief agency of the National Council of Churches.

Mrs. Webb is currently the chairperson of Vietnam Christian Service, an ecumenical operation in South Vietnam.

She is the widow of Robert M. Webb, an official of the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies of New York, and she is the mother of two children.
