NEW YORK, N. Y. -- The 156th academic year of the General Theological Seminary began on September 11, 1974, for the 164 students registered for classes for the Michaelmas Term. Of this total over 40 are incoming or junior-year students representing a significant increase in the number in this category over the 1973 figure. The total enrollment in the Master of Divinity program is 101, a figure up about 25 percent over 1973.

Traditional matriculation ceremonies will take place at Evensong in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at 6:00 p. m. on October 28th. At this time all new students will be asked to ascribe to the matriculation oath and affix their names in the matriculation book which has been in constant use since 1822. The origin of the Seminary dates back to 1817 when the resolution establishing it was passed by General Convention. The preacher at the matriculation service will be the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Taller, Professor of Liturgics.
