Diocesan Press Service. October 2, 1974 [74262]
ATLANTA, Ga. -- An Advisory Council of The Episcopal Church Foundation was established at an organizational meeting in Atlanta on September 24, and brings to 12 the number of these laymen's groups operating in key cities nationwide.
Purpose of the Councils, said Henry S. Noble, ECF president, is to communicate with and advise the Foundation's board of directors regarding parish needs and activities, and assist in development of regional and national church-related programs. They also represent the Foundation on the parish level. The Episcopal Church Foundation is an independent national organization of laymen that supports the work of the Church.
In addition to the Council in the Diocese of Atlanta, the Councils, now totaling more than 325 members, are located in the dioceses of New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pittsburgh, Southern Ohio, Chicago, Missouri, Minnesota, Los Angeles and California. Stephen P. Bell, Foundation vice president, is director of Advisory Council operations.
In the four years since the Foundation began sponsorship of these regional groups of prominent Episcopalians, a number of projects have been undertaken. Mr. Noble said these include acquainting others with the objectives and work of the Foundation, answering questionnaires and opinion surveys on subjects of importance to the Church, recommending parish-level projects and counseling on their implementation, and interesting outstanding young people in the possibility of entering the ministry.
