The Episcopalian Notes Growth in 1974

Diocesan Press Service. January 27, 1975 [75032]

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- With the publication of the February 1975 issue, THE EPISCOPALIAN, the officially sponsored, independently edited publication of the Episcopal Church, reached an all time high circulation of 160,000 plus.

Circulation growth of THE EPISCOPALIAN in the past year has represented one of the most dramatic turnarounds in church publishing. THE EPISCOPALIAN began 1974 with a circulation of 98,000 and the magazine format in which it had been published since 1960. Plans had been set to convert to tabloid format effective with the June 1974 issue. The new format along with a plan by which individual diocesan publications are being combined with the national edition accounts for the steady growth which took place throughout 1974.

THE EPISCOPALIAN now combines the publications of ten dioceses with the national edition. Dioceses which have taken advantage of the plan offered by THE EPISCOPALIAN include Arizona, Central Pennsylvania, Eastern Oregon, Iowa, Kentucky, Nevada, Northern Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Southwest Florida. The Diocese of Western North Carolina will combine its diocesan publication with THE EPISCOPALIAN beginning in March 1975, adding further to the steady circulation growth.
