World Hunger Training Conference Held in Denver

DENVER, Colo. -- The first of two inter-provincial training conferences on world hunger was held in Denver, March 4-8. This event brought together 71 representatives, appointed by their respective diocesan bishops, from Provinces 5, 6, 7, 8, all in the western, southwestern, and midwestern sections of the U.S., and from Province 9, in the Latin American areas, and from Liberia and The Philippines.

The conferees heard presentations by Art Simon, speaking for BREAD FOR THE WORLD; the Rev. Norman Faramelli, on international dimensions; Steve Brooks, representative for Food Research and Action Center on domestic hunger; the Rev. George Chauncey, trade-aid; Dr. Pat Kutzner, printed and projected resources; the Rev. Edmondo Desueza and the Rev. Tito Mora, representatives for the third world; Ms. Lillian Vallely and Ms. Ruth Mitchell for the American Indian communities ; Howard Quander, for the Committee for Human Development; and the Rev. Winston Ching, speaking on behalf of the concerns for Asia Ministry.

In the evenings, the provincial teams planned the training sessions for their respective dioceses with the expressed hope of raising the consciousness of the parishoners within their boundaries to the realization of the dimensions of domestic and world hunger today.

The second Inter-Provincial Training Conference took place at Vineyard Conference Center, Louisville, Ky., March 16-20, for participants from Provinces 1, 2, 3, and 4, in the eastern and southeastern areas of the U.S., and from Province 9 in the Latin American area.
