Biography of Ecumenist Noted at Reception

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- PROPHET OF REUNION: The Life of Paul of Graymoor, a biography of Father (Lewis) Wattson, received recognition on May 12 when the Ecumenical Commissions of the Episcopal and Roman Catholic Churches in New York held a reception at St. Thomas Episcopal Church to mark its publication.
Co-authors Father Charles Angell, S.A., and Father Charles LaFontaine, S.A., both associate directors of The Graymoor Ecumenical Institute, Garrison, N.Y., described the significance of Father Paul's life in brief statements. Originally an Anglican priest, he founded the Atonement Friars of Graymoor and brought this community into the Roman Catholic Church. Subsequently, he strived to advance the unity of the two communions. Thus, his work is now a "benchmark," an indication of the "progress we have made and the ecumenical predicaments we face."
The Rt. Rev. J. Stuart Wetmore, Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, who contributed the introduction to the book, also commented on how "the prophetic ministry of Father Paul and the Society of Atonement were forerunners of the present openness between the two churches."
PROPHET OF REUNION is published by The Seabury Press and is available from the Seabury Bookstore or other related bookstores at $6.95.
