NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church has called a special Conference on Evangelism to be convened in Dallas, Texas on January 15-16, 1976.
Seventy-five Church leaders have been invited to join with Presiding Bishop John M. Allin in helping to develop a basic strategy for evangelism, as the Church prepares for the September, 1976 General Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul and plans programs for the 1977-1979 triennium. The theme of the conference is "Renewing Evangelism."
The request for the conference grew out of a joint meeting of Episcopal groups with evangelism concerns and responsibilities -- evangelism committees of the Executive Council and of the House of Bishops. The conference will be under the joint auspices of the House of Bishops' Committee on Evangelism, chaired by the Rt. Rev. Frank S. Cerveny, Bishop of Florida, and the Executive Council's Committee on Evangelism, chaired by the Rt. Rev. Harold C. Gosnell, Bishop of West Texas.
In calling for the conference, Bishop Allin said, "I seek a cross-section of the Church's leadership as participants. Some have stated interests in Evangelism. Some are leaders in other fields. Together we need to examine Evangelism and see what we can do to strengthen our witness to Jesus Christ in the Episcopal Church."
The Rev. A. Wayne Schwab is the Evangelism Officer of the Episcopal Church Center staff.
