Hames Named Editor of Canadian Churchman

TORONTO, Ont. -- Appointments to two positions have been announced by the board of trustees of Canadian Churchman, national newspaper of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Jerrold F. Hames has been appointed editor of the newspaper and Donald C. McQuarrie has been named general manager.
Mr. Hames, 35, a native of Windsor, Ont., has been on the staff of the paper since 1969. He worked for the Windsor Star as reporter and education writer from 1962 to 1965, while obtaining a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Windsor.
In 1965 he joined the London Free Press and was religion writer for the paper as well as covering special assignments, such as the 1965 Selma, Ala., civil rights march.
Mr. Hames began working for the Anglican Church in 1967 as the national press and information officer and two years later joined the staff of Canadian Churchman.
In recent years Mr. Hames has been an active member of the Canadian Church Press and of the Associated Church Press, whose membership comprises over 190 religious publications in North America. He is also an associate member of the Religion Newswriters Association.
Mr. McQuarrie, 52, joined the staff of Canadian Churchman in 1969. He assumes his new responsibilities in addition to his present capacity as advertising manager. Born in Goderich, Ont., Mr. McQuarrie was educated in Toronto and worked with the Association of Canadian Advertisers before joining MacLaren Advertising Ltd. in 1947.
During his years with the advertising agency, he worked in the media department and as an account executive. He was in account work when he left MacLaren's in 1968 to teach at George Brown College in Toronto.
Canadian Churchman, with a national circulation of 280, 000, is celebrating 100 years of publishing this year.
