Workshop on Christian Unity to be Held in Memphis

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- "Christian Unity and Religious Freedom in our Pluralistic Society" will be the theme for the 1976 National Workshop on Christian Unity, to be held in Memphis, Tenn., February 25-27.
Among the Episcopalians participating in the annual event will be Ms. Donald G. Pollie, Diocese of Southern Virginia, who will participate in a seminar on " Educating for Ecumenism ;" Mrs. Lee Winchester, Associate Ecumenical Officer, Diocese of Tennessee, who will moderate a seminar on "Experiences of Christian Unity at the Local Level ;" Bishop John H. Burt of the Diocese of Ohio, chairman of the Joint Commission on Ecumenical Relations of the Episcopal Church, who will participate in a seminar on "Baptism and Mutual Recognition of Membership in the Church ;" and the Rev. John Bonner, Ecumenical Officer in the Diocese of Tennessee, and chairman of the national Episcopal Diocesan Executive Officers, who will moderate a seminar on "Organizing for Local Ecumenism. "
Archbishop Jean Jadot, Apostolic Delegate in the United States, will preach at the opening worship service at Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Memphis. Subsequent worship services will be celebrated at First Baptist Church, Beale St., and other Memphis churches, while plenary sessions and seminars will be conducted at the Ramada Inn.
Principal speakers at the Workshop include Dr. Richard Shaull of Princeton Theological Seminary and Dr. Robert T. Handy of Union Theological Seminary in New York.
The National Workshop on Christian Unity is an annual gathering of people working in ecumenism from many different churches. The 1976 Workshop will be the 13th in a series that began in Baltimore in 1964.
