Theodore A. McConnell Joins the Seabury Press

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The appointment of Theodore A. McConnell as Editor-in- Chief of Crossroad Books and as a Vice President of The Seabury Press, effective January 1, 1976, was announced by Werner Mark Linz, President and Publisher of the Press.

Mr. McConnell said he sees "Seabury's recent publishing record as a splendid incentive and challenge for the future. "

Mr. McConnell was Editor-in-Chief of Pilgrim Press since 1969 and prior to that worked for Westminster Press, and as a parish priest. He is a graduate of Grinnell College (B.A. 1960), Yale Divinity School (B. D. 1963 ), Episcopal Theological School (Diploma 1965), and Yale University (STM 1968). He has contributed to professional journals in religion, history, and education, and published The Shattered Self in 1971.

Crossroad Books is the publishing imprint of Seabury's religious book program. It continues Seabury's list of Episcopal and educational titles as well as the former Herder and Herder publishing list emphasizing theology and contemporary religious issues. Authors publishing under the Crossroad Books imprint include John B. Coburn, Leon-Joseph Cardinal Suenens, Karl Rahner, Jacques Ellul, Robert N. Bellah, Urban T. Holmes, Peter Berger, Richard J. Neuhaus, Carroll Simcox, Andrew Greeley, Robert F. Capon, Avery Dulles, Norman Pittenger, Rosemary R. Ruether, Frank Sheed, Alan Paton.

Working with Mr. McConnell on an expanding religious book publishing program are Justus George Lawler, Senior Editor (Mr. Lawler is also Editor-in-Chief of Continuum Books, Seabury's general publishing program); Robert Gilday, Managing Editor; Michael Leach and Frank Ovels, Associate Editors; and Lois Krieger, Editorial Assistant. Reid Isaac, previously Editor-in-Chief of Crossroad Books, has returned to parish ministry work.
